Sophos Endpoint Antivirus – Addressing PC Performance Issues

If you notice that your PC is slow, it might be related to the machine writing AutoUpdate data relentlessly to the computer’s hard drive. You will be able to find out certainly using the Windows Resource Monitor and selecting the Disk tab, and then sorting the disk writes column by descending order to determine what’s causing the most B/s actively writing to disk. This may happen at any time, but more often on a PC that has been using Sophos Endpoint Antivirus for many years. By default, updates run every 60 minutes, but the service should not be needlessly consuming disk resources.

You may follow these 4 steps below, as linked via:

Clear the local Cache and warehouse folders on the endpoint

  1. Delete the contents of the C:\ProgramData\Sophos\AutoUpdate\Cache\ folder
  2. Delete the status.xml file from C:\ProgramData\Sophos\AutoUpdate\data\status\
  3. Delete the contents of the C:\ProgramData\Sophos\AutoUpdate\data\warehouse\ folder
  4. Force an update – right click on the Sophos shield and select Update Now
